Downtown Portland in the 1940s, showing the marquees of the Broadway and Paramount Theaters. The Paramount (opened 1928) operated as a movie palace into the 1970s and was renamed Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall in 1984. The Broadway also operated in this era.
